Maybe you like the idea of yoga but aren’t sure it’s for you. Maybe you have a bum knee, a stiff back, or can’t touch your toes. Maybe you’ve never seen anyone with your body type or skin color doing yoga. Maybe you’re worried about making safe modifications and keeping up with the class.
I hear you, and I’ve got you.
Maybe you’re an experienced yogi, but you’re not enjoying your practice right now, or have hit a plateau. Your aches and pains aren’t going away like you hoped. Maybe you’re coming back from an injury.
I hear you, and I’ve got you.
You need a teacher who can be present and really see where you are right now, and I would love to be that person for you. When you have the opportunity to do a customized practice, your understanding of the poses and movements, and your sense of well-being will increase immensely. That’s why I’m offering private workshops for people like you.
What my clients are saying:
Rachel is the rare yoga teacher who emphasizes the importance of finding a sense of ease and joy while doing yoga, and to respect one’s own body and limits… This is a teacher who believes in my ability to deeply listen to my own body and bring about my own well-being and peace.~ Michelle Morris

So how does it work?
A private workshop combines the detailed focus of a workshop and the customization of a private lesson. You can either select your focus from a list or choose a completely custom workshop based on your needs. We will then meet for an hour over Zoom to do a practice designed just for you.
Each workshop includes:
- Planning and assessment – Before your first workshop, this will be an e-mail conversation or a 10-minute phone call or Zoom meeting to discuss your history and needs. For subsequent workshops, planning and assessment meetings will be done on an as-needed basis.
- One hour of workshop time reserved just for you (or you and a friend)
- Written notes from our session within 3 days to help you remember what we covered
- A personalized action plan to continue working on on your own if you wish
- Four free group classes within a month of your workshop date
How does this look in practice?
You will learn a balanced approach to healthy movement and yoga postures that may include: building strength, observing how your joints are moving, and applying what you learn about smaller movements to yoga poses for greater mobility, stability, and ease.
You will work in other parts of the body that affect the region we are focused on (for example, if we are working on hips, we will also likely look at the feet).
You will check in with your body and communicate what you’re experiencing. I will guide you through using your body’s innate feedback system to customize your practice.
You will observe how you are moving in and out of poses so that you never arrive in a place of tension or discomfort while doing the practice.
You will have your wisdom and experience honored – you will be in charge of your own body and will make choices that feel safe, along with my guidance.
And therefore, you will experience an approach where we explore multiple options to find the one that works best for you.
This is not a good fit if you are looking for:
- A lot of passive stretching
- A focus on the aesthetics of the poses
- A dogmatic one-sided approach to the practice
- A class where you are told what to do and are not asked for your input
As someone who acquired hip issues from yoga (likely from too much flexibility and too little strength), Rachel’s descriptions of hip position and movement have been so helpful! I spent several years wondering if I would be able to practice yoga again without causing further damage. Rachel’s clear and thoughtful instruction has given me new insights on how to practice while protecting my injuries and regaining my strength.– Marisa Trego
What does it cost?
The average cost of a group class in San Diego is around $20, so for the cost of 5 classes, you can get a private one-hour workshop that focuses on the specific needs of your body, plus notes and follow-up, AND free access to 4 of my group classes, too. If you bring a friend, it’s even less!
The per workshop cost is $100, or $140 total for two people. Regular clients (booking within a month of your previous workshop), get 25% off, making it just $75, or $105 for two people.
