I’ve been a runner for the past twenty plus years (with some breaks in there). I ran a marathon and a half marathon last year. I know from experience that proper stretching is essential for runners to prevent injury and improve performance, and yoga has a lot to offer in this area as you can see in this video, where the stretches closely resemble common asanas.
Beyond just stretching, I’ve found my yoga practice benefits my runs in other ways too, in particular increasing my awareness of my breath, helping me slow my breathing rate and calm my mind to push through that dreaded wall.
